Introduction

(READ THIS IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT A DRAUGHT IS)

A draught is a drink that has been either been brewed in the Dreaming, or brewed using Dreaming elements, magic, or technique. It is not alcoholic, but very often has an intoxicating effect on the consumant, in addition to other effects, usually emotional or physical. Like the alcohols of the Waking, these draughts are typically consumed for entertainment or social engagement; however, some exist for utility or curative purposes, and there are a number of draughts that can serve multiple functions. This draughtbook contains the recipes for draughts cultivated by the owners and operators of The Neko Cafe.

Policy On Recipe Circulation

(READ THIS IF YOU ARE A DRAUGHT BREWER)

In accordance with the tradition of our people, draught recipes in this book may be freely circulated without expectation of compensation, so long as recipes are properly attributed to those who created the recipes. In this draughtbook, attribution is given accordingly to the authors of each recipe; and if research cannot unearth the author of a given recipe, attribution is given to the group or location from which it originated. In the event that even the recipe's provenance is unclear, attribution is given to our ancestors, per the tradition of our people.

Warning for Waking Creatures

(READ THIS IF YOU WERE BORN IN THE WAKING OR ARE OTHERWISE NOT OF THE DREAMING)

The draughts in this book will affect creatures of the Waking and the Dreaming equally; however, Dreaming creatures tend to enjoy a more mutable form than Waking creatures. In short, the effects of a draught are something from which a Dreaming creature can easily recover from. This is largely the case for Waking creatures as well; however, there are occasional instances in which the effects of a draught linger far past their expected term, or become permanent altogether. Because Wakers tend to have immutable forms, the only way to counter or revert such effects is to seek the aid of a Dreamcatcher, one of the guardians of the Dreaming - and not all of them are equally benevolent. Some will require payment in exchange for a service rendered and time expended - deal honestly with them, or you may find your state worse than it was before you dealt deceitfully.
